CHARACTER NAME: Kurogane
SERIES: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle
RESERVED: Yes but it expired because I have this procrasination issue yasee. xD;;
WISHLIST: No~~
PERSONALITY: Kurogane can be described many ways, the first of these is that he is very loyal to those he calls "friend" meaning that he would eventually give up his own life and limb consequently if it meant that his friend or comrade could live. His loyalty is very strong toward Princess Tomoyo because in a way, she gave him the strength to keep moving forward in a very dark time of his life. He isn't afraid of a fight either but isn't necessarily interested in fighting them. In fact, if asked to join in the festivities, the chance is very high that he'll say no. It's not that he doesn't enjoy a good fight, in fact he loves a good fight but he won't join in unless it's for the right reason. Whatever those reasons are, are solely up to him. Otherwise, Kurogane is a stoic character full of perception especially toward convincing his friends to move on and not to let the past consume them.
When most people first encounter they will see a dead serious man with a volatile temper. He's definitely not the cheerful, optimistic type like some of the other characters from his canon but realistic and not afraid to tell it like it is. At first, he appears to be an uncaring, creepy guy forced into a misadveture by his Princess. While he doesn't like being forced into finding the meaning of true strength. He's not the talkative type and can be compared to a rather scary dog. He won't be afraid to bite your head off if you're being an idiot. He's easily angered, especially when he's annoyed or given particularly stupid nicknames.
He also happens to enjoy his booze and if he knows that you're going to be a fool when intoxicated, he'll make sure you don't drink a lot. Unless you really need it. And comics. He loves ninja comics as he buys them in any country that sells them and don't ever offer him chocolate or milk. He'll glare at you.
BACKGROUND: (this is pretty brief high-lighting key events about Kurogane.)
Kurogane was born as the son to the Lord of the province of Suwa in the Country of Nihon. His mother was a Miko responsible for keeping the barrier around their province strong to keep demons from invading. In his childhood, Kurogane was known to be an energetic and outgoing child who strived for his father's approval and was soon training in the use of a katana. He would eventually master his Father's special technique which would eventually become Kurogane's signature technique. A young Kurogane desired to not be strong for the sake of being strong but to use his strength to protect the ones he loves. This mantra still follows him to this very day.
After the death of his parents, he was taken in by the High Priestess of Nihon Country. Tsukiyomi -- aka Princess Tomoyo -- saved him during his time of despair. A younger Kurogane witnessed the death of his mother at the hands of Fei Wong Reed and with the further death of his father after receiving blessing from his mother on their family sword -- Ginryuu -- his father was also slain. That day, something inside the now master of the Province of Suwa went on a rampage, defeating all the monsters who had invaded his homeland. Aftereward, holding his mother's corpse and staring at everything before with eyes full of a deep, lingering pain that wasn't ready to go anywhere. As he went to attack the priestess, she pierced his left hand with powerful magic that pegged him to a board. Afterwards, the Priestess came forward and closed his mother's eyes, begging the boy to let his mother rest. It was the first chance he got to cry before blacking out.
He would awake in Shirasaki Castle with the princess by his bedside. It was at this time that he asks the Princess to bury Ginryuu with his mother's remains as his father no longer has a body to bury. A scar was left on his hand from where the magic blade pierced it which remains to this very day. It can be said that afterward, due to the lack of a strong father figure in his life, Kurogane became very rebellious as he refused to listen to everyone in the castle . This is a large part of the reason why he was sent away from Shirasaki, Tomoyo and Nihon. In order to learn the meaning of true strength, a curse was placed upon Kurogane as he was sent to Japan and the Time Dimension Witch's residence. He would be sent on this journey by his princess because of his refusal to follow directions. Kurogane will have to learn over time to not kill needlessly lest he lose all his strength because of it. With the curse in place to drain his strength if he killed anyone out of joy and his trusty katana, Kurogane wished to travel to the distant world's with Fai, Syaoran and Sakura at the cost of his weapon.
When first with Syaoran and Fai, he doesn't have any interest in aiding the boy in finding Sakura's feathers. He says quite clearly that it doesn't concern him and he has no interest in aiding the boy. This changes as things go along in the series but for no, he's very cold and distant to his new travelling companions. The only thing that seems to spur any type of emotion from him is when Fai or Mokona start him by the silly nicknames that he hates. He won't hesitate to yell at either of them that his name is Kurogane and nothing else. Yet, he seems to respond to them all the same even as he's teased relentlessly. Eventually though, he does start to take interest in his companions becoming protective of them. He's keen enough to know that Syaoran is blind in the one eye and starts to remedy that by teaching the boy to fight and in the use of the sword that Syaoran will receive. At the time in the country of Outo, Kurogane will also receive Souhi. They got these weapons to defeat the Kiji in the country in order to earn money. Kurogane will keep this sword as it is the closest to his original Katana.
Eventually, they land in Piffle Country where Kurogane will encounter a copy of Princess Tomoyo. It's here that he displays his loyalty to his princess -- and through the course of the series -- to his friends. Eventually he will say to Tomoyo to tell the Princess that he'll be back no matter what before arriving at their next destination of Lecourt Country. Kurogane's past will come into play here when Syaoran is transported into the world of magical book after Kurogane touches it. Afterward he impresses upon Syaoran that he shouldn't let his (Kurogane's) past affect him. They were his private memories that noone should have seen but Kurogane knew that there was nothing that could be done about it. Hitsuzen is a fickle thing indeed.
Later on in their journey, when they come to a third version of Japan -- known as Acid Tokyo -- Kurogane will pay a heavy price to save the life of a friend. He declares his trust for Mokona in a crucial when Fai's life is on the line. In order to save the wizard's life, Kurogane will become bait for Fai as a vampire so that he may survive. It will link the two of them for life as they next venture over into the land of Celes. It is here that Fai places a charm on Kurogane's sword arm so that he may summon his weapon whenever he needs it. As one after another, Fai's curses come into play Kurogane will end up sacrificing that charm, Souhi and his left arm consequently -- something of equal magic -- in order to transport them to a place of safety in order to save Fai's life once again. He will find himself waking up in his Japan badly injured with his Princess by his side. It is during this time that we discover that Kurogane's true name is Youou. After this, Kurogane and his companion's are transported to Clow Country where the whole story began.
TIMELINE: I'll be taking Kurogane from the chapter 182. 183 and up doesn't really have a lot.
